We will work to identify and change the unhelpful automatic thoughts you hold to be more helpful, while practicing coping skills that work specifically for you. In turn, we can change the way you feel, leading to positive behavioral changes.

We all have stories about ourselves, others, and the world around us, which tend to be a culmination of cultural messages we have received throughout our lives -- from family, friends, community, and society as a whole. Many of our stories rear their heads through unhelpful automatic thoughts. We will reflect on messages you have received, how they are helpful or unhelpful to living out your ideal story, and empower you to take control of your narrative.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is simply experiencing the present moment without judgment. By practicing daily, we can train your brain to live more fully in the present moment - this means less time worrying about the future and less time ruminating about the past! Also, by being in the present moment with your mind and body, you will gain insight into yourself -- helping you to identify those unhelpful thoughts, while helping you to respond to uncertain situations rather than react.

Self-Compassion
Self-Compassion

This allows for you to have compassion for yourself because -- let's face it -- nobody's perfect! Through recognizing your inner dialogue -- many times rooted in internalized negative messages you have received through cultural/familial messages -- we can identify the unhelpful thoughts you have about yourself and then learn to think in a more helpful way. This can lead to increased confidence, encouragement, and motivation. Who doesn't want that?

Expressive Arts & Sandplay
Expressive Arts & Sandplay

When it's difficult to express how we are thinking or feeling, we can rely on sandplay or expressive arts to do the trick. By combining talk therapy with creativity, we are facilitating communication between the left (logical) and right (creative) hemispheres of our brain -- a necessary component of holistic healing. Sandplay and expressive arts also help clients bring to the surface unconscious needs and desires, many times with noticeable catharsis!
